Plot:
Oxford, 1970s: A student attends the class of college professor, Coupland, who wishes to prove there is no supernatural. He shows a video of a possessed boy and explains that research will be done to find a cure for this kind of disease. One of his students, Brian McNeil (Sam Claflin), is invited to film the experiment process and joins Coupland, his two assistants Krissi (Erin Richards) and Harry (Rory Fleck-Byrne) and their subject Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke), a young woman who generates strange phenomena and has been abandoned. Jane is generally kept locked in a room with loud rock music playing during the daytime to prevent her from sleeping in the hopes that the psychological agitation will result in increased activity. Coupland and his assistants settle in an isolated house in the countryside to keep experimenting on Jane. Jane's negative energy takes the form of "Evey," an infant doll-like creature only Jane sees. Jane is then given a physical doll to put her negative energy in to destroy it. The further the researchers drive Jane to insanity with their methods, the stranger things get around the house. Brian is upset by the way Jane is treated and the lack of ethics in the experiment. Evey's apparitions become increasingly aggressive and Jane begins to self-harm. There are also worrying indicators that any attempt to harm Evey, harms Jane as well. Coupland refuses to stop the inhumane experimentation while the others become convinced that Evey is a true malevolent force. Brian and Jane become closer, sharing a kiss. When the group experience another attack by Evey, Brian goes to Oxford, where he discovers that a symbol that was marked into Jane is from a cult, which worshiped a Sumerian demon, that did experiments on a young girl a few years back; their leader believed Evey Dwyer, a girl with clairvoyant abilities, to be the one to bring their "idol" into the physical world. Everybody in the cult died in a house fire that Evey set, including Evey herself. Brian goes back and tells them about the cult, he is certain that Evey is a demonic presence who is possessing Jane and convinces Harry and Krissi of this, but Coupland denies his theory and responds that Evey must be a figment from Jane's past rather than a demonic force (perhaps her parents read the story to her from a newspaper and Jane's subconscious is merely manifesting that persona). After a heated argument, the group are all marked with the same symbol Jane had. Krissi and Harry are gruesomely murdered by an unknown force. Jane realizes that she was the little girl that supposedly died in the house fire; she was born with clairvoyant powers and had set the house on fire to kill everyone. The authorities changed her name to Jane to give her a normal life and that's the reason why all her negative energy is manifesting; Evey isn't a demon, she's Jane's real identity (one who can't escape the trauma of her past life no matter how hard her mind has tried to repress it). Jane/Evey then attacks Brian, only for them both to be knocked out by Coupland. When Brian wakes up, he finds Coupland giving Jane a lethal injection as he thinks stopping her heart long enough for the negative energy to dissipate would permanently cure her. However, before Coupland is given a chance to be proven either wrong or correct, Brian saves Jane and subdues Coupland, but Jane locks him out of the room and commits suicide by setting herself on fire.

The screen cuts to a film footage, showing Brian sitting in a chair, holding a camera. Somebody asks him what happened and how everybody died. Brian explains that everything that happened was captured on film. The person says that there is nothing on the film, and that everything in the house, including the films, was destroyed by the fire. Brian laughs manically and his hand starts to smoke, just as Jane's did.

Plot: "Just Another Saturday Night"
Marv (Mickey Rourke) regains consciousness on a highway overlooking the Projects, surrounded by several dead young men and a crashed police car and with no memory of how he got there. He retraces his steps, recalling since it's Saturday, he watched Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) dance at Kadie's Saloon. Stepping outside, he encounters four rich frat boys burning a bum alive. When Marv intervenes, the leader of the frat boys shoots him in the arm, calling him "Bernini Boy", which Marv mishears as "Bernie." They flee, and Marv follows, stealing a police car on the way, which he crashes into their car, leading to his blackout and memory loss. He follows the two surviving frat boys into the projects, the neighborhood where he grew up, and with the assistance of the deadly residents lurking in the shadows, he dispatches the frat boys. Before killing the leader, he questions him about being called 'Bernini boy', (it was the brand of coat he wore,) he slits his throat. Having completed his business, he considers his coat, and realizes he can't remember how he acquired it.

"The Long Bad Night (Part I)"
Johnny (Joseph Gordon Levitt), a cocky young gambler, arrives in Sin City and heads to Kadie's place, where he immediately hits the jackpot on multiple slot machines. Taking a young waitress, Marcie (Julia Garner) with him as a good luck charm, he buys into the backroom poker game lead by the all-powerful Senator Roarke (Powers Booth). Johnny repeatedly wins in the high-stakes game, and cleans the senator out. One other player, the corrupt police lieutenant Liebowitz (Jude Ciccolella) warns him to get out of town, but instead Johnny takes Marcie out for a night on the town. He walks her home when Roarke's goons suddenly attack him. He fights them off and tells Marcie to meet him at a hotel before he is escorted into the Senator's waiting limousine. In payment for the humiliation he suffered at the card game, Roarke takes back his money, then reveals a pair of pliers, which he uses to break three of Johnny's fingers. They toss him from the car and the Senator shoots him in the leg, at which point he reveals that Johnny is his illegitimate son, but remarks that he only considered his dead son Roarke Jr. (who was killed during the events of the first film) his flesh and blood. He leaves Johnny alive, preferring to let him suffer, and Johnny swears revenge.

"A Dame to Kill For"
Years before "The Big Fat Kill", Dwight McCarthy (Josh Brolin) attempts to put his violent past behind him, working as a private detective and leading a life of complete sobriety, struggling daily to refuse his inner demons. After saving the life of a young hooker (Juno Temple) who is nearly murdered by her businessman lover (Ray Liotta) he receives an unexpected phone call from his former lover Ava Lord (Eva Green), who left Dwight four years prior for a wealthy tycoon, Damian Lord (Marton Csokas). She begs him to meet her at Kadie's saloon, and despite his embittered feelings, he agrees. When Ava arrives, she begs forgiveness for leaving him, and infers she is afraid for her life before her massive chauffeur, Manute (Dennis Haysbert) arrives to escort her home. Unable to get her out of his mind, Dwight sneaks into Damian Lord's estate, where he observes Ava swimming, but is caught and beaten for his trouble. Dwight is returned home, where a nude Ava waits for him. He tries to throw her out, but can't resist her and they make love. She tells him that Damian and Manute torture her physically and mentally, and she knows Damian will kill her soon. Manute arrives and viciously beats a naked Dwight, tossing him out a window.

Determined to rescue Ava, Dwight recruits Marv to help him, and they mount an assault on Lord's compound. Marv attacks Manute, putting him in traction and tearing out his eye. Dwight confronts Damian Lord, who denies Ava's accusations, and an enraged Dwight beats him to death. As he reacts in horror, Ava appears and shoots Dwight several times, taunting him and thanking him for helping her murder her husband and take over his business. She shoots him in the face and forces him to fall out of a window, where Marv rescues him and takes him to Old Town. Dwight's old flame, Gail (Rosario Dawson), recognizes him and saves his life. With the help of Gail and the deadly assassin Miho (Jamie Chung), Dwight undergoes reconstructive surgery on his face and plots his revenge.

Meanwhile, two detectives, Mort (Christopher Meloni) and Bob (Jeremy Piven) investigate Damian's death. Ava claims Dwight was an obsessive ex-lover, and he killed her husband in a jealous rage. Bob is skeptical but Ava seduces Mort, who believes her every word. They begin an affair and Ava pressures him to find and kill Dwight. When Mort, obsessed with Ava, attempts to track Dwight down in Old Town (an action that would break the truce between the police and the prostitutes), Bob attempts to stop him. An enraged Mort shoots Bob in the head, then turns the gun on himself and dies on the roadside. Out of options, Ava reluctantly partners with the mob boss Wallensquist (Stacey Keach).

Dwight (with his reconstructed new face), accompanied by Gail and Miho, poses as Wallenquist's man from Phoenix. Inside Ava's estate, however, Manute sees past the new face and captures Dwight. Gail and Miho strike from Dwight's car, and Dwight shoots Manute with a hidden .25 he had up his left sleeve. Six bullets fail to kill him, and Manute aims shakily at Dwight as Ava unexpectedly grabs one of Manute's guns, shooting Manute several times. She attempts to convince Dwight to pair with her, and that the pain he suffered revealed his true intentions, but Dwight shoots her mid-kiss, and she dies in his arms.

"The Long Bad Night (Part II)"
Johnny visits an unlicensed doctor, Kroenig (Christopher Lloyd) who shoots up heroin before trading his services for Johnny's last forty dollars and his shoes. Realizing he left Marcie unprotected, Johnny flees to her hotel, but finds the Senator waiting for him along with Marcie's dismembered head and hands. Again, the senator lets him go. Intent on taking down Roarke, Johnny scrounges a dollar from a sympathetic waitress (Lady Gaga) which he uses to regain enough money playing slots to buy his way into Roarke's game the following night. Playing a card shark's con, Johnny folds his first few hands, allowing Roarke to taunt him about his dead mother. He once again cons Roarke into going all in, and then reveals his winning hand. Johnny taunts his father, reminding him that tonight's story of how the same man beat him twice will follow him for the rest of his life. His vengeance completed, Johnny smiles resignedly as Roarke dismissively shoots him in the head, commanding his men to get rid of the body.

"Nancy's Last Dance"
Set four years after "That Yellow Bastard", Nancy Callahan struggles to cope with John Hartigan's selfless suicide. Drinking heavily, she became obsessed with vengeance on senator Roarke, who drove Hartigan to kill himself. As she wallows in despair, the ghost of Hartigan (Bruce Willis) watches over her, unable to reach her but still attempting to help. On the same night that Johnny joins the backroom poker game, Nancy attempts to shoot Roarke from the stage of Kadie's, but finds herself unable to pull the trigger, possibly due to Hartigan's ghostly influence.

Nancy hallucinates a visit from Roarke, and shortly thereafter cuts her hair and smashes a mirror, using its shards to cut her face. She decides to get Marv to help her kill Roarke by showing him the scars, and making him believe Roarke was responsible. As they step out of the club, they meet a motorcycle gang there to shoot up the place. Marv kills two, but leaves their leader for Nancy to finish off. The pair mount an assault on Roarke's compound, and Marv slaughters Roarke's bodyguards while Nancy picks off the guards with a crossbow. Marv is wounded, and Nancy continues on to confront Roarke by herself. Roarke shoots her several times and is about to finish her off when Hartigan's ghost suddenly flashes in the mirror to distract him, which gives Nancy enough time to recover and shoot him dead.

Plot:
John "Breacher" Wharton (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is the leader of an elite team of DEA agents from the Special Ops Division, which includes James "Monster" Murray (Sam Worthington) and his wife Lizzy Murray (Mireille Enos), Joe "Grinder" Philips (Joe Manganiello), Julius "Sugar" Edmonds (Terrence Howard), Eddie "Neck" Jordan (Josh Holloway), Tom "Pyro" Roberts (Max Martini), Bryce "Tripod" McNeely (Kevin Vance), and "Smoke" Jennings (Mark Schlegel). During a raid on a cartel warehouse, in which Smoke is killed, the team steals $10 million from the cartel's money, hides it in sewer pipes to collect later and split among themselves, and blows up the rest to cover their tracks. However, the money disappears, and their superior Floyd Demel (Martin Donovan) finds out about it and suspends them for several months, during which they are investigated for the theft. With no concrete evidence of their participation, Demel reinstates them. Later, Breacher finds out that Lizzy has become addicted to drugs and that her marriage with Monster is failing. Pyro is killed when his trailer is rammed by a train, after someone drives it to the tracks while he's unconscious. Investigator Caroline Brentwood (Olivia Williams) and her partner Darius Jackson (Harold Perrineau) are assigned to the case and interrogate Pyro's teammates. Brentwood notes Neck is avoiding interrogation, and Breacher accompanies her to his house, where they find him nailed to the ceiling and disembowelled. Brentwood recognizes the execution as the modus operandi of the cartels, leading Breacher to assume the cartel is hunting them down over the stolen money. Breacher and Brentwood visit Tripod, who left the DEA after being suspended, and find him dead after a shootout in which he killed an assailant whom Breacher identified as a cartel enforcer. Monster later visits Brentwood, who is suspicious of Breacher, and tells her that Breacher's family was kidnapped by the cartels, who videotaped their murders and later sent the tape to Breacher alongside the severed limbs of his wife and son. Breacher spent months searching for his family's killers before the team convinced him to move on. Brentwood apologizes to Breacher, and they end up having sex. Jackson traces the dead enforcer's cellphone to a cartel safe-house, which is raided by Breacher and his team. However, the enforcers are not there. They are later found dead at the bottom of a river near Tripod's house, and Brentwood realizes that they were killed before Pyro and Neck, meaning someone is framing the cartels of targeting the team. Breacher reunites the team to tell them what happened, and Lizzy lashes out and reveals she's been having an affair with Sugar. Grinder later confesses to Brentwood that they stole the money. Breacher meets with Grinder to discuss what's next when Grinder is shot dead by Lizzy, who is behind the murders alongside Sugar. Lizzy then meets with Monster to discuss her escape. Monster destroys her passport and Lizzy slashes him with a knife, killing him. Breacher and Brentwood go to Lizzy's house and find Monster stuffed in a refrigerator. Lizzy calls Breacher, pretending to be alone, and arranges a meeting at a parking garage. Breacher goes there with Brentwood and engages in a shootout with Lizzy and Sugar, who attempt to escape but following a car chase through the city's streets end up crashing into a truck, decapitating Sugar. Breacher and Brentwood confront a dying Lizzy, who accuses the team of stealing the money behind their backs, causing her to swear revenge. Brentwood is puzzled, assuming Lizzy had stolen the money. Breacher tells the dying Lizzy that he took the money. Lizzy tries to reach for her weapon and Breacher kills her. Breacher tells Brentwood to be "a good girl and walk away." The local cops arrive and Breacher disappears.

Weeks later, Breacher is in Mexico, where he uses the stolen money to bribe a corrupt police officer into helping him identify the man who murdered his family. Breacher finds him in a Mexican bar and kills him and others loyal to him in a violent shootout, during which he is shot in the chest. Having avenged his family, a mortally wounded Breacher sits at a table, takes a shot of whiskey, lights up one last cigar and smiles as he hears the approaching sirens.

It stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson, Penelope Wilton, Sam Reid, Matthew Goode, Emily Watson, Sarah Gadon, Tom Felton, and James Norton. The film is inspired by the 1779 painting of Dido Elizabeth Belle beside her cousin Lady Elizabeth Murray at Kenwood House, which was commissioned by their great-uncle, William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield, then Lord Chief Justice of England. Very little is known about the life of Dido Belle, who was the illegitimate mixed-race daughter of Mansfield's nephew. She was born in the West Indies and entrusted to the care of Mansfield and his wife. The fictional film centres on Dido's relationship as a young woman with an aspiring lawyer; it is set at a time of legal significance as a court case is heard on what became known as the Zong massacre, when slaves were thrown overboard from a slave ship and the owner filed with his insurance company for the losses. Plot:
In 1895, a young immigrant couple is refused entry into Manhattan because they have consumption. When their infant son is not allowed entry to the country without them, the couple decide to place him in a model sailboat named "City of Justice" to float there safely. In 1916, the infant boy has grown up to be Peter Lake (Colin Farrell), a thief raised by a supernatural demon posing as the gangster Pearly Soames (Russell Crowe). Peter is marked for death when he decides to leave Pearly's gang. In a confrontation, he is rescued by a mysterious white horse, his guardian angel. Although Peter hopes to move to Florida and come back in the summer, the horse encourages him to steal from one last mansion. The mansion is the home where Beverly Penn lives, a young woman dying of consumption. While her publisher father Isaac and younger sister Willa are not home, Beverly discovers Peter preparing to commit robbery of the house. When he assures her that he no longer wishes to commit robbery, she offers to make him a cup of tea. They tell each other about their stories and fall in love. Pearly orders his men to Beverly’s home, believing that saving her is Peter's "miracle" and spiritual destiny. Peter rescues Beverly and they escape to the Lake of the Coheeries, where Pearly, who is supernaturally limited to the five boroughs of New York, cannot follow. Peter meets Beverly’s family at their summer home and wins their respect. While on a walk, Beverly explains to Peter that everyone is born with a miracle inside which are destined to become stars when they die. Pearly asks the devil, Lucifer (Will Smith), for access to the lake home, but his request is denied. Instead, Pearly, who refers to himself as a Knight among Lucifer's angels, calls in a debt owed to him by another of Lucifer’s angels. At a ball, a man poisons Beverly's drink. When she returns home, Peter sneaks up to her tent. The two have sex and she suddenly dies. After the funeral, as Peter and his mysterious white Horse are about to leave, Pearly and his men surround them on the Brooklyn Bridge. Peter orders his mysterious winged Horse to fly away, and Pearly gives Peter four vicious head-butts pushing him off the bridge. Peter miraculously survives, but wanders around the city with amnesia for a century, drawing chalk art of a red-headed girl on the pavements. In 2014, Peter bumps into a girl named Abby and meets her mother, Virginia Gamely. He rediscovers the "City of Justice" plaque from the toy sailboat his parents placed him in. Peter then discovers the Theatre of the Coheeries, founded by Isaac who has dedicated it to Beverly. He goes to the library where Virginia works and she helps him get his memory back using historical photographs archived at the library. While there, he meets the grown up Willa, who is the boss of Virginia's newspaper. Abby has a seizure, revealing that she has cancer. Realizing that Abby, not Beverly, is his "miracle" and spiritual destiny, Peter convinces Virginia that he can save Abby.

When Pearly learns that Peter is still alive and with Virginia, he again sends his gang in pursuit. Pearly and his men arrive at their apartment, causing Peter and Virginia to flee to the rooftop with Abby. The mysterious winged horse flies them to the Lake of the Coheeries, but Pearly has become mortal to pursue Peter. After Horse dispatches Pearly's men, Peter and Pearly engage in a fistfight and Peter stabs Pearly with the "City of Justice" plaque. Pearly turns to ice and Peter is able to save Abby. After visiting Beverly's grave one last time, Peter mounts the horse to be carried away to the stars.

In 1987, Adele Wheeler (Kate Winslet) is a depressed single mom who lives in a rural home with her 13-year-old son, Henry (Gattlin Griffith). While they are clothes shopping, a bloody man approaches Henry and makes them take him home to look after him. The man is revealed to be Frank Chambers (Josh Brolin), a convict who is wanted by the local police after breaking out of jail. Through flashbacks, it is revealed that Frank is a Vietnam veteran who returned home and married his pregnant girlfriend, Mandy (Maika Monroe), who soon gave birth. A year after the baby's birth, Frank and Mandy had a fight, where she unintentionally revealed that he isn't the baby's father. During the fight, he accidentally pushed her against a radiator, resulting in her death. Simultaneously, the baby drowned and Frank was sent to jail for Mandy's murder. Adele and Frank fall in love and plan to go to Canada with Henry. They begin packing the house and cleaning on Labor Day. Meanwhile, Henry develops a friendship with a mature, but manipulative girl named Eleanor (Brighid Fleming), and goes to see her one more time before they leave. She manipulates him into thinking Adele and Frank are going to abandon him and he accidentally reveals Frank's past. The morning they are going to leave, Henry takes a note to his father's house and leaves it in his mailbox. While he is walking home, a policeman (James van der Beek) offers to drive him home, and Henry has no choice but to accept. The policeman is suspicious of the packed car and nearly-empty house, but eventually leaves. Adele goes to the bank to get all the money out of her account, and while she is gone the neighbor comes over to give Adele some cinnamon rolls, and speaks to Frank. She is suspicious of who he may be. Henry's father finds the note he left, and calls the house wondering what is going on. Before Adele, Frank, and Henry can escape, the police arrive and arrest him. He ties Henry and Adele up before he goes out to surrender, so that they won't be charged with harboring a fugitive. It is not revealed who called the police to report Frank's presence at the house.

Years later, adult Henry (Tobey Maguire) has become a successful baker and is contacted by Frank, who is getting out of jail. Henry tells him that his mother is still single, and Adele meets Frank at the prison upon his release.

Plot:
Issa Karpov (Dobrygin), a refugee from Chechnya, enters Hamburg, Germany, illegally. Günther Bachmann (Hoffman), a German espionage agent, leads a team which seeks to develop intelligence from the local Muslim community. The team learns of Karpov's presence from CCTV footage and confirms from Russian intelligence that he is considered to be an extremely dangerous terrorist. The team also tracks the activities of local Muslim philanthropist Dr. Abdullah (Ershadi) who is believed to be funnelling funds to terrorist activities, though the team is unable to prove this. German security official Mohr (Bock) and American diplomatic attache Sullivan (Wright) both take interest in the two cases. Karpov contacts an immigration lawyer, Annabel Richter (McAdams), through a local Muslim family and she puts him in touch with Tommy Brue (Dafoe), a banker whose father laundered money for Karpov's father. Karpov identifies with his maternal Chechen heritage and doesn't want his father's money. Bachmann's team is able to turn Brue and Richter who convince Karpov to donate the funds to Abdullah's organization believing that Abdullah will reroute some funds to a shipping company which is a front for Al Qaeda. Bachmann plans to capture Abdullah and turn him as well in order to ensnare those higher up in the terrorist organization. The plan is approved by the interior minister and Abdullah does indeed route funds to the shipping company, but as Bachmann prepares to take Abdullah into custody, he is ambushed by forces reporting to Mohr and Sullivan who capture Abdullah and Karpov.

America: Imagine the World Without Her is a 2014 American political documentary film by Dinesh D'Souza. Plot:
Setting the stage for a presentation of their views, D'Souza and Sullivan provide counterfactual histories in which George Washington is killed during the Revolutionary War, or the country is divided following civil war, creating a world without America that would be vastly worse off. He claims modern leftists are “telling a new story”, however, contradicting traditional veneration for America in order to “convince a nation to author its own destruction” and “unmake the America that is here now.” He then challenges several "indictments" made against the country and American exceptionalism, including sociology professor and activist Michael Eric Dyson's claim that “Thievery" was the “critical element” for “American empire” and historian and activist Ward Churchill's assertion that the US is the world's new evil empire, and says that 1960s Chicago radical Saul Alinski, historian Howard Zinn, and others have promoted guilt and resentment regarding wealth inequality that has helped shape the political careers of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.D'Souza argues that America's wealth has been created, not stolen. He says the $700 used to purchase colonial Manhattan from American Indians could buy many desolate parcels globally today, but that individual industry has made New York real estate worth billions. He states that in Europe, India, and elsewhere most countries have been founded on conquest, and observes that the American pattern of wealth creation hasn't been the universal norm. He cites examples like Arab historian Ibn Khaldun preferring looting to trade and says that merchants form Hinduism’s second-lowest social caste. The film argues that American Indians exhibited this "conquest ethic" among themselves, and that most of what American Indian depopulation occurred during European colonization resulted from the accidental transmission of plagues that had earlier devastated Europe, not an intent to wipe out a people. It says modern American Indians have little interest in returning to their hunter-gatherer past. In an interview Senator Ted Cruz compares the Texas Revolution to the American Revolution. Professor and Reconquista advocate Charles Truxillo is contrasted with an interviewed American of Mexican descent who says he has no desire to return to a poverty and crime ridden Mexico and instead wants to live the "American Dream". D'Souza says that slavery impeded American development, rather than boosting it. The film argues that slavery was an omnipresent phenomenon for most of human history, but that its abolition was "uniquely Western", noting the rarity of a "great war fought to end slavery" like the American Civil War. According to the film the Declaration of Independence essentially says “liberty is the solution to injustice,” a “promissory note” cashed throughout history by Americans such as Martin Luther King, Jr.. C.J. Walker, the black entrepreneur and daughter of slaves who is regarded as America's first self made female millionaire, is cited as an example of the type of individual success story the American system allows that is ignored by historians like Zinn because it undermines their leftist narrative. Columbia University economist Jagdish Bhagwati is shown saying that the “world is embracing the free market,” for which there is “no reason for us to be apologetic.” The film outlines how free enterprise, consumer choice rather than coercion, has raised living standards by making existing goods cheaper and creating new ones.

The film challenges the notion that America is a rapacious conqueror by arguing that Americans have sacrificed for human well being around the world, including places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Germany, and Japan, seeking in return only “enough ground to bury” their dead, as former Secretary of State Colin Powell is quoted as saying. A US veteran of Hanoi Hilton captivity is interviewed discussing his desire to liberate Vietnam. D'Souza reflects on Lincoln's assassination and the continuing cost of freedom, saying that we no longer have past heroes like Washington and Lincoln, but "we do have us” in “our struggle for the restoration of America.”

Plot:
Dan Mulligan (Mark Ruffalo) is a struggling record label executive living in New York City. One night, while drinking at a bar in the East Village, he encounters Gretta (Keira Knightley), a young and fiercely independent songwriter whose music captivates him. Certain that he can make her into a star, Dan offers to sign her to his company's label. But Gretta, determined not to compromise her principles as an artist for the sake of fame, turns him down and he walks away. However, when she leaves the bar, Dan is waiting for her and convinces her to join him for a drink. Through flashbacks, it is revealed that Dan is estranged from his wife Miriam (Catherine Keener) and was recently fired from his job, having not signed any new artists in over seven years. After a heated argument with his wife over their teenage daughter Violet (Hailee Steinfeld), Dan goes on a drinking binge which ultimately brings him into the bar that night. Likewise, Gretta has just broken up with her long-time boyfriend and songwriting partner Dave Kohl (Adam Levine), a successful musician who had an affair with one of his producers while away in Los Angeles. Angry and heartbroken, Gretta intends to leave New York for good, but Dan suggests that she take some time to think about his offer. After a change of heart, Gretta calls Dan the next day and agrees to let him produce her music. They meet with Saul (Mos Def), Dan's business partner and co-founder of the independent music label Distressed Records, but unfortunately he does not see the same potential in Gretta and turns her away. Undeterred, Dan proposes that he and Gretta produce their own album together, to be recorded live during the summer at various public locations around New York City. Recruiting a team of talented musicians, including Gretta's best friend Steve (James Corden), Dan sets out to make an album worthy of being published by his label. During this time, Dan and Gretta bond both personally and professionally, and Gretta takes Dan's daughter, a fledgling guitarist, under her wing and encourages her to play on the album. When Gretta sees Dave accepting an award on television, she criticizes him for selling out to the music industry. Sick of his betrayal, she expresses her grievances with him in a song which she records on his voice mail. A remorseful Dave, who is back in New York to promote his new album, returns her call and asks to see her, but Gretta does not respond. With the album finished, Dan and Gretta meet again with Saul. While he is very impressed with their collaboration, Gretta demands a bigger share in the deal for Dan, herself, and her bandmates. They leave without reaching an agreement, but Dan feels confident that Saul will eventually sign Gretta to the label. After some consideration, Gretta decides to meet with Dave and they critique each other's albums. However, Gretta feels betrayed by Dave's heavily commercialized rendition of Lost Stars (a love ballad she had written for him as a Christmas gift when they were still together), believing that the true meaning of the song has been lost. Nevertheless, Dave invites her to come and hear him play the song at the Gramercy Theatre that weekend (partly as an attempt to make up with her) so that she can see the impact it has had on his fans. Gretta arrives at the venue just in time to watch him play her arrangement of the song. Though he invites her to come on stage and perform with the band, she declines, but as Gretta watches Dave play, she realizes how much his priorities have changed, and that music and fame will always take precedence in his life. Faced with this newly discovered truth, Gretta leaves the concert and bikes through the city with a newfound acceptance of closure and a dawning smile on her face.

Afterwards, Gretta visits Dan at his apartment as he prepares to move back home, having made amends with his wife. She tells him that she does not want him to publish her album, instead preferring to distribute it online. Reluctantly, Dan agrees and contacts Troublegum (CeeLo Green), a popular rap musician who helps to promote the release via Twitter. The next day, Dan is informed by Saul that Gretta's album sold 10,000 copies in its first day.

Plot:
A young couple named Zach and Samantha McCall have recently married and have gone to the Dominican Republic for their honeymoon. They visit a fortune teller who keeps repeating to Sam, "they've been waiting for you". Afterwards, the couple finds themselves lost on an unknown street they do not remember seeing. Wanting to return to their hotel, they get offered a lift from a pushy cab driver who offers to take them to a local bar. The couple reluctantly accepts. The couple begin partying and both soon pass out drunk. They are both then seemingly taken to an underground chamber in the nightclub where Sam is subject to some kind of ritual by an unseen force. The next morning, Zach and Sam wake in their hotel with no memory of the previous night. A couple of weeks after the honeymoon, Sam discovers she's pregnant despite claiming to have taken birth control pills "religiously" ever since the wedding. Though shocked, Zach and Samantha are overjoyed and tell their family and friends the news. The couple later attend their first ultrasound scan where the doctor says that the baby looks healthy and Sam is due by the end of March. At that moment, the ultrasound screen goes static but recovers after a moment. Throughout the course of her pregnancy, Sam begins to experience nosebleeds, stomach bruising, cravings for raw meat despite being a vegetarian, super-strength and telekinetic abilities and unexplained feelings of rage whenever she or the baby appear to be threatened. Also, Zach and Sam keep seeing odd-looking people randomly watching their house. Sam becomes convinced something is seriously wrong with the baby. After a second visit to the doctor, a new doctor appears. When it becomes evident that Sam is uncomfortable with having the child, someone (presumably the cult, including the new doctor) places tiny hidden cameras in the McCall's home to monitor her progress and make sure she doesn't hurt the baby. When Sam is eight months pregnant, the couple attend a holy communion at their church. The priest who officiated Zach and Sam's wedding looks at Sam during the service and begins to violently cough up blood. Later at home, when Zach is reviewing the communion footage he filmed, he sees the mysterious cab driver more often than he should as well as a strange symbol. He visits the priest in the hospital, who explains the symbol is related to summoning the Antichrist. Zach decides to investigate the symbol further and breaks in to an apparently abandoned house at the end of his street where he finds the CCTV footage of his house inside and is almost caught by the house's inhabitants who appear to be performing a ritual. Zach barely manages to escape.

Upon returning home, Zach hears Sam scream and all the glass in the house smashes. He finds Sam in the baby's nursery standing in a trance-like state with a knife to her stomach. Zach screams for her to stop, but she presses the knife to her stomach anyway and there is a violent blast of light. When Zach recovers, he finds Sam lying in her own blood with her stomach cut. She cries and wonders if the baby is alright before dying. Zach breaks down in grief before the cab driver and the second doctor appear. Zach begs the intruders to leave them alone, but the doctor takes the baby regardless. Zach is then arrested and is being interrogated by the police on the death of his wife and disappearance of his child. His fate is left unknown. The ending shows another young couple, on their honeymoon in Paris, where the same cab driver offers a lift.

Plot:
Malcolm Johnson and his cousin Ray-Ray are driving Malcolm's possessed girlfriend Kisha to the hospital after he beat her senseless for trying to attack him. Kisha starts making a fuss and fights Malcolm, then breathes into Ray's face. He passes out at the wheel and collides with a truck. Somehow, everybody is okay, but Malcolm and Ray leave an unconscious Kisha in the backseat and run away. A year later, Malcolm has married Megan, an insecure woman with two kids, her bratty and promiscuous teenage daughter Becky and effeminate son Wyatt, who has a stereotypically black imaginary friend named Tony. The family moves into a new home with their dog, Shiloh Jr. Within minutes, a safe falls on the dog and crushes him. Malcolm hysterically cries all the way to when they bury the dog. One of the first things the couple finds is a creepy looking doll named Abigail. Malcolm messes around with it until he straight up starts having gross, dirty, hardcore sex with it. Malcolm carries his camera around to record everything he sees. He meets the neighbor, Miguel, who jumps at every chance he gets to call Malcolm racist whenever he comments on something related to a Mexican stereotype, though all of it is in jest. Weird things start happening again. Malcolm records himself having sex with Megan and notices the Abigail doll turning its head. He also finds old videotapes with a demonic being in it trying to kill a family of three by hanging them from a tree. He fails when the rope breaks and he never actually gets to hang them. Additionally, Becky finds an old box and develops an attachment to it, and Wyatt continues to hang out with his imaginary friend. Malcolm seeks help from a paranormal psychologist named Professor Wilde. He deduces that Malcolm must have had a previous encounter with a demonic force. Malcolm thinks it has to do with Kisha. Wilde then proceeds to cook meth with some prostitutes. Malcolm finds himself being terrorized and taunted by Abigail, as he is getting sent crude photos from her to his phone. She also ends up burning his clothes. Later, Malcolm sees a box moving in the dark and begins to attack it in every possible way. Megan and the kids run downstairs and tell Malcolm that what was in the box was supposed to be a surprise for him to make up for Shiloh Jr. And so Malcolm pulls out a horribly mangled dog. He blows its head off to put it out of its misery. Among other weird scenarios that plague the family is Becky opening her box and having a whole swarm of moths fly out. Malcolm fixes this by installing lights to attract bugs to their doom. He also notices the demon, which Professor Wilde says is named Aghoul, taunting him in the videos. Although he tries to explain the weirdness to Megan and the kids, they don't believe him. To make matters worse, Malcolm comes home the next day to discover Kisha talking to Megan, looking very much not possessed. She has told Megan that Malcolm left her in a ditch to die, and she leaves after flashing him some scary black demon eyes. Later, Malcolm sees Abigail wrote "Miss me?" in red crayon all over the walls. He tries getting rid of her by burying her, but she comes back. He chops her up and barbecues her, but she still comes back. Malcolm resorts to seeking help from the insane Father Doug Williams. He finds the crazy priest in a church, shanking another priest for absurd reasons. When Malcolm asks for his help, Doug only makes weird comments about the Kardashians coming after him and other men. Malcolm leaves when he thinks he sees demons surrounding a church, but they're really just church women who make comments about Malcolm being with a white woman. Miguel comes over and offers a chicken to be used as a blood sacrifice. Malcolm ends up wrestling the chicken all across the kitchen, ending with him throwing the chicken up into the ceiling fan where it is decapitated. He and Miguel fry the remains and eat it with waffles. As a last resort, Malcolm goes to find Ned and Noreen Swanson, a sort of racist and sexually frustrated paranormal investigative husband and wife duo. He brings them to his house, where they determine that the demonic presence has attracted the family to it, explaining Becky's need for the box, Wyatt's imaginary friend, and Malcolm's sexual attraction to Abigail. They take hits from a bong mask and go downstairs to find Becky fully possessed. She flails around and gets thrown everywhere. Malcolm calls upon Doug to come by, but he has a mental breakdown and ends up shooting himself in the head. Becky runs upstairs and Malcolm chases after her. After some reluctance, he gets the demon to transfer itself to himself by having Becky regurgitate red goo. Everybody runs upstairs to find Malcolm possessed. He too pukes up the goo back into Becky's box. The Swansons take the possessed items, including Abigail so Ned can have sex with her. Everything seems okay until the night when Malcolm and Megan are watching TV and Kisha shows up behind them. She twists Megan's neck around, sending Malcolm running away.

Ray and his boys come to Malcolm's house to find Megan dead, along with Becky upstairs, impaled in her bed, and Wyatt is missing. They find Malcolm lying on the floor in the basement, still alive. After a bit of panicked rambling, Kisha comes downstairs, leaving all the guys to scream in fear.
